Speed & Agility Coach

As a member of the track and field team, Jerry participated as a runner/assistant coach. He was a member of the 1987 Continental Sports Conference gold medal, 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams.  He also coached the European Champions in the open 400 and 800 meter dashes, that same year.  The 800 meter champion also broke the European record in the 1987 Championship meet.

            After being assigned to Keesler Air Force Base, Jerry expanded his field of coaching to speed and agility coaching. He became a para-professional coach through the Mississippi High Schools Coaches Association and sought out opportunities to coach. As a personal trainer at Excel Fitness Center, Jerry was afforded the opportunity to write strength and conditioning programs for the William Carey men’s soccer team.  Over the last seventeen years, he has also assisted the track coaches at Central Middle, Bay ST. Louis High School, and Gulfport High school.  In 2004 he held the position of strength and speed coach for Gulfport High’s boys’ Varsity basketball team.

            Jerry has always tried to stay on the cutting edge of coaching, by keeping up with the most up to date research on speed, strength, agility and sport psychology. He has taken graduate classes in exercise science and sports performance at the United States Sports Academy, in Daphne, Alabama.  Jerry has obtained certifications in the following areas; National Coaching Certification Level 1, National Federation of High Schools fundamentals of Coaching, Coaching track and field, Coaching Cross-Country, Sports Performance Enhancement, Youth Conditioning Specialist, Youth Speed and Agility Specialist. Jerry is currently completing qualifications for          Jerry is the founder and owner of Youth-N-Motion and Elite Speed Academy. The facility focuses on sports performance enhancement and creating elite track and field student athletes. Jerry’s philosophy is; “develop relationships with young student/ athletes, encourage daily improvement toward their full potential and develop a life-long love for physical activity.”
